The City of Long Beach is inviting the public to the grand opening of its newest beach attraction, an inflatable aquatic playground known as the “Wibit.” The celebration will take place in the sand at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at Alamitos Beach, south of Ocean Boulevard and east of Shoreline Drive, between Fifth and Sixth places.
“I know our community really enjoyed the Wibit playground at Bayshore Avenue, and we’re excited to launch this second one at Alamitos Beach just in time for summer,” said Mayor Robert Garcia.
The inflatable water park, free and open to the public, will be configured in a figure-eight shape to connect multiple floating play structures. Features will include a springboard, bouncer, monkey bars and other elements to encourage water play, such as swimming, balancing, climbing, jumping, sliding and swimming.
This $400,000 project located in the City’s Second Council District and coordinated by Public Works in coordination with the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, was made possible through the Tidelands Operations Fund, which has covered costs for repairs and upgrades to many public facilities in Long Beach.
“Families really need to see this floating playground off Long Beach’s coast to believe it—folks are going to be spending a lot of days out here on the water enjoying this new attraction, so you’ll want load up on the sunscreen this summer and for many summers to come,” said Second District Councilwoman Cindy Allen. “This new playground will make our shoreline more fun for everyone, and I can’t wait to get out there and jump around on it myself.”
With its location near Long Beach’s popular beach walking and biking paths, the floating playground will provide the community with yet another unique recreational opportunity.
The Wibit water play structure will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily until the end of the summer season. Children under the age of 14 must be supervised when playing on the structure.
