Mindful Awareness Meditation Online

Hammer-Museum--Mindfull-Awareness-online_4x2

EVERY THURSDAY 12:30–1:00PM by the Hammer Museum

Mindful Awareness Meditation

Mindful Awareness Meditation is the moment-by-moment process of actively and openly observing one’s physical, mental, and emotional experiences. Mindfulness has scientific support as a means to reduce stress, improve attention, boost the immune system, reduce emotional reactivity, and promote a general sense of health and well-being. These half hour weekly sessions are open to all who are interested in learning how to live more presently in life. No special clothing is required, and participants are welcome to join for five minutes or enjoy the entire 30 minutes.

These free weekly drop-in sessions usually take place in the Hammer’s Billy Wilder Theater but are now offered live online via Zoom.

Sessions are led by Diana Winston and other instructors from the UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center. Visit www.marc.ucla.edu to learn more about the UCLA Mindful Awareness Research Center.

Winston has been practicing mindfulness meditation for more than 20 years, and when she began it was fairly unknown in this country. But today secular mindfulness meditation is taught to executives, war veterans and schoolchildren; it is used in prisons and hospitals, and is written about in women’s magazines.

She starts by asking people to notice their breathing as they work toward “paying attention to present moment experiences with openness, curiosity and a willingness to be with what is.”
